Learning sessions

What are learning sessions?

Learning sessions will be regularly scheduled live meetings where someone can share their knowledge on a topic to the rest of the team. Attendance to these sessions is optional.

Goals

  • To foster and aid professional development for members of the team and contributors.

  • To encourage us to stay up to date with latest trends and technologies, and keep an open mind to knowledge outside of our usual scope that may help us think outside the box and be innovative in our daily work.

  • As a tool for team building, where we all help each other grow and take our differences in background and past experiences as opportunities for enrichment.

Scope

Topics for learning sessions are open to what people are interested in learning and presenting about, but should roughly follow these guidelines:

  • Topics should be related to the presenter’s work background and experience. For example, some with experience in Design could share a presentation on Design Thinking, or Design Systems – or something not strictly related to Design but that they have experience on and could be of interest to other members of the team, e.g. CSS. Although the topics are fairly open, we do want to make sure we follow the goal of fostering professional development, with an emphasis on professional – in that sense, a presentation on for example knitting or baking wouldn’t be relevant in a professional context to any of the members of the team.

  • Topic don’t necessarily need to be related to LiteFarm or anything that we’re currently applying at work here (although they can be). For example, if someone is interested in giving a presentation on Next.js, it’ll be useful for the purposes of professional development and keeping in touch with new technologies even if we’re not currently using that framework in our web app.

  • Topics should be specific enough to be able to provide a valuable presentation within a timebox of 1 hour.
